LBR Staff Writer Published 07 June 2018

Kerry Logistics Network has purchased a majority interest in Milan-based logistics firm, Saga Italia, for an undisclosed sum.

Established in 1985, Saga Italia is specialized in the field of project logistics and material management. It offers end-to-end solutions as per the customers’ project requirements.

Saga Italia owner and managing director Marco Oriolo said: “We are looking forward to a successful future as part of the Kerry Logistics team, driving the businesses of our customers through innovative logistics solutions.”

Saga Italia offers a range of services, comprising a complete suite of international freight forwarding services covering air, ocean and overland transportation.

More than 150 logistics professionals from Saga Italia monitor projects for multinational corporations across the globe, specifically for customers in the oil and gas industry.

The acquisition will expand Kerry’s service portfolio with the addition of Saga Italia’s expertise in the fields of project logistics, heavy lift services and material management.

The acquired business will add three new countries to Kerry’s network, including the Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and Egypt, in addition to new offices in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Russia, and the US.

Kerry Logistics Europe managing director Thomas Blank said: “With this step, we continue to build upon our expertise in project logistics which currently spreads across China, The Philippines, Indonesia, The Commonwealth of Independent States, and India.”

“Saga Italia’s specialised knowledge further strengthens our activities and will support us to tap into the immense business opportunities as more Belt and Road projects get off the ground.”

In May this year, Kerry Logistics acquired South Africa-based freight forwarding and logistics company, Shipping and Airfreight Services (S.A.S.), for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition enables Kerry Logistics to expand its service offerings in the South African freight forwarding market.

S.A.S. freight forwarding unit provides a range of ocean and air freight services, including less than container load (LCL), full container load (FCL) and break bulk services for ocean freight cargoes.
